First Nations People need real action not phony dress up like you people photo opportunities for politicians

For years now we have been as a nation making treaties with our First Nations Peoples and then simply giving them a different spin when it came time for their implementation resulting debate upon debate, new act over old act, in a vicious cycle designed by the Canadian government to make Canada look like it is indeed interested in the problem, like it is trying to get this problem resolved, when all that is really intended by the Canadian government is to stall and forever keep the circle going round and round.  So tired of the debate  the government of Canada hopes all stake holders will be willing to accept any solution that is put on the table no matter how unfair, no matter how morally wrong, no matter how illegal.  I would say that up to now this strategy has worked, because the average Canadian is willing to accept the premise that just because we said we will do something to set a wrong right does not mean we have to do it if it is inconvenient and will cause us to give back what we have attained illegally.  In every other instance in Canadian law it is illegal to acquire either with knowledge or without knowledge stolen goods.  Once it is determined that you indeed did acquire someone elses property illegally you are forced by law to give it back and seek your remedy from the person, or persons who made the illegal sale to you. Never has the orignal victim been forced to buy back what is already theirs like our First Nations People are being forced to do and in this case only if the offending party is willing to sell it back at an inflated price seeking to further profit from the crime.  We as Canadians have been sold on the idea from the Canadian government that doing the right thing morally and legally is  something we do not have to do if in the end it does not get us the result that we seek and that somehow with the passage of time the truth somehow will change and what was once illegal will become legal, what was once and immoral act will somehow become morally right and what was once unjustifiable will somehow with the passage of time justify itself.

History and events all over the world are proving this to be not true as the oppressed, the mistreated and the abused of countries rise up and make a stand.  Sometimes this protest is peaceful and sometimes it is not, but more often than not lately it is carried out until a just and fair remedy is found, or one side no longer exists.  People’s memories are long and their will to see justice done is strong and they will pass down the history of the injustice to their children and leave extract from them a solemn unbreakable pledge to get back what is theirs by right.  This is our future in Canada if we do not listen to the pleas and now the warnings coming from our First Nations People who we have first stolen everything we have from, made deals that we had no intention of keeping to and now refuse to honor causing them much suffering and it a lot of instances death.  When we alter the law of the land so that we can get the results of the case in point that we want, I say there is no law and therefore the remedy will not be found within the confines of the law.  This is the case when it comes to our First nations People when trying to get justice within the confines of Canadian law. 

 I have heard the promises from the government of Canada year after year and listened to the pleas from our First Nations People to receive justice and their fair share of Canada’s riches and the honoring of treaties that predate the forming of Canada and that were entrenched as an obligation to keep and not alter by the crown in the agreement that saw Canada become an independent nation.  If no treaty to this date has been honored by Canada with its First Nations People, what difference does it make what they promise to do in the future?  I heard Chief Mercedes speak with passion and talk about going to the crown with their concerns if forced to, by the lack of action from the federal government and I wondered exactly what good the First Nations People though that would do for them?  This is the same crown that made the orignal treaties that they did not honor either and the very validity seems to be under question by the government although they are a part of our accepted history.

I think that the issue now is trust and as everyone knows the Canadian government has given the First Nations People everything but a reason to trust them.  We have as a nation given these people hope in word both spoken and written and denied or out right refused to honor them.  We have stolen their children out of their homes, forced them into schools far away from their homes and then on top of it all abused them in every way possible while trying to beat the Indian out of them and in the end Prime Minister Harper apologised and thought the debt was paid and the stigma erased, a mission accomplished as far as he and his government were concerned and need never need come up again.  Poor sick man.

Now if we can agree that before we can get an agreeable deal we must have trust on both sides of the table that the deal will be upheld an honored by both sides and that the wording in the deal means the same thing to both sides I can understand the government being willing to give it a try the First nations People have been nothing but honourable, patient and completely honest and have acted for their part in good faith, but what is the government of Canada bringing to the table except please trust me I promise not to renege again.

For one thing the Prime Minister, Stephen harper is already stating publicly that as much as he would like to scrap the Indian act and get beyond it, because it is too deeply entrenched in our society and laws to simply negate it and go back to what was originally promised in the treaties and Canada is under crown obligation to follow.  In other words before the first talk on the issue Canada’s official position is we can not do that, so here is what we can.  Our solution does not recognize any your needs, or any of the guaranteed promise made to you, but it is acceptable to us and considering all things and the time that has passed it is a step up from where you are now and better than nothing.  If you do not accept our offer we can go back to court, to the crown, or anywhere else you wish to take this fight and waste another 300 years arguing and debating while your children go uneducated, and you continue to live in squalor; or you can choose to trust us that this is all that we are prepared to offer you and that it is a one time offer.

It is not good enough to listen to the other side in this type of situation as the once Grand Chief said it is now a time for action.  The time for lame promises is over it is a time for action.  This government has shown time after time that with their strong, stable, majority government that they can pass any law that they chose, spend money where they like and as much as they like and have done so up to now to kill people in far away lands, take away rights of Canadians, and make the poor and most fragile of Canadians suffer with their cuts to social spending.  This government has increased the size of its government with every cabinet shuffle, tipped the balance of the senate it said it would abolish in its favor through patronage appointments and pout a gag on what the people of Canada are allowed to hear and know when it comes to the running of this country, so we know that they could if they wanted to fix this problem too, but chose not to.

It is this coming to the table to negotiate that I despise because the government already knows it will do nothing to make things right.  Oh they will probably offer up a little cash to make themselves look like they are trying and the First Nations people are not. They will clean up the reserve that needs the most work, but they will never come close to fixing the core problem which is honoring the agreements that already in place.  There can be no moving on no new agreement with a country, a government that has proven in the past and is still proving every day that it is incapable of living up top anything that it promises to do.  I think that we as a country must now do what is inconvenient and swallow the bitter medicine.  If people are on land that was promised to the First nations People than they should be bought out and the land given to its rightful owners whether it be businesses, or personal property, because all of the sales were illegal to start with.  Services such as education should be a guaranteed thing immediately by law today; we know how fast this government can pass a new law when they are motivated to do so.  Let these people have some dignity and autonomy at let them contribute through paying taxes like everyone else for the services they will be getting like everyone else.  They are not children and are asking to stop being treat like mentally challenged adults incapable of taking care of themselves as they are thought of and treated now.   

I think that the question of moving beyond the Indian Act is not question on the table as part of the government’s solution to tis problem.  I think that over the years the Canadian Government has made it clear that giving these people what is theirs by right of birth, treaty and law is something that any government of Canada are not now and will never will be willing to do.  Doing the right thing has taken too long and the harsh reality is not one citizen would be willing to give up a farm, a house, the fish in a stream, or even a good hunting spot to see the situation of the First Nations People corrected and so the political powers that could make the bad situation a good one tomorrow protect their jobs and stall for time.  We cry, we protest as citizens when the news reports reveal a situation like Attawapiskat and the government says we are trying and succeeding in most other First Nation Reserves and pretends that this is an isolated incident, or a result solely of bad band leadership and not insufficient funding, but what of these places and these people, are they all just isolated incidents and a result of poor band allocation of funds?(Fort Albany, a First Nations reserve in Northern Ontario, Wasagamack First Nation, about 600 km north of Winnipeg in northern Manitoba, Kashechewan  First Nation, a fly in Cree community upstream from James Bay in northern Ontario, Tsawwassen First nation 25 km south of Vancouver) are all suffering from either overcrowding, water pollution and an over all despicable and deploring state can we as Canadians and a government lay claim to innocence in all of these cases? I think not and there are more First Nations Reserves out there not  mentioned in this post in this sorry state all over Canada.  Do we owe these patient people nothing on this long over due debt, this miscarriage of justice? Are they to see another generation go by without an honest attempt to do right by them?

More promises made to look at things yet again, but no promises to do anything of importance were made by the Prime Minister and a feeling of yet more unheard pleas from the First nations People who have once again been told to go home try to do better in managing what we give you and be patient we are working as fast as we can on these very complicated legal issues. another meeting more wasted money on talks.  Why not just give the money wasted on these go no where do nothing meetings to the suffering people on these reserves.

Question:  If the First Nations People of Canada were to rise up and use force to get what is owed to them, like oppressed people are being encouraged to do all over the world are doing all over the word, by the  Canadian Government and with Canadian government financial and military support, would they be seen as traitors, terrorists, or freedom fighters to you?

With thousands of miles of pipeline laid with hundreds to thousands of joints connecting them we are being told that it is not possible to have a leak and there is no possibility of an environmental catastrophe like in the Gulf Coast oil spill?

I tell you every time I think I have bead on this Harper led Conservative government they do something new.  Are we to understand that Mr. Harper bulldozed through Keystone  Oil Project without being sure the USA would even accept it?  It would seem that Prime Minister Harper has the wrong President in power in the USA .  Under George W. Bush this pipeline would have been accepted the same way that under George W. Bush, Halliburton was given the okay to do what it did to get at the gas underground destroying the environment wherever they went.  Thousands of Americans left with water that could be set on fire with a match as it came out of their faucets in their homes. Children being born sick, bo wild life for miles and affected Americans with no legal recourse.  George W. Bush changed the laws to exempt big companies like Halliburton from having to follow the laws concerning clean air and water as well, but the oil spill that nearly wiped out a coastline and killed wild life that could not be contained started a change in the way the USA policy makers looked at the possibility of uncontrollable man-made disasters that were avoidable if you did not create an environment where such inevitable disasters could flourish.  The answer was so easy, “If you can not be sure that it is environmentally friendly and will stay that way, do not do it.  Prove you are 100% safe and have a plan to fix whatever could go wrong before it destroys lives and the area, or we will not allow you to do it.”  sound reasonable thinking in my opinion, but by Stephen Harper’s reaction to the Keystone Pipeline postponement and later comment to President Barack Obama shows that he thinks that the USA is wrong on this one.   George W. Bush thought that global warming, acid rain and all ecological and environmental concerns were highly exaggerated and without sufficient scientific proof.

With Barrack Obama  in power it would seem that the Prime Minister is not so eager to become another state in the Union.  From Harper’s position on Israel and the entire Middle East situation, the Harper government‘s position and lack of compassion in his belt-tightening strategy where social programs are concerned, to Harper’s  position   concerning environmental issues it would seem that Harper and his strong, majority Conservative government has guessed wrong about the USA’s direction in just about everything and seems to be at odds with a neighbor and trading partner that they have stated that Canada can not do without and is back peddling now and trying to look tough instead of wrong and embarrassed.  How is it possible that one leader, one political party could be so wrong about so many things?  Is the Harper government that ill-informed when it comes to making important policy decisions about what is best for Canada, or do they just chose not to accept good advice, because they think it is a sign of weakness, or that they risk losing a little of their new-found power.  I for one think that they are drunk with power and are stumbling around causing all sorts of trouble in their drunken stupor.

Is this the same Prime Minister who was just telling Canadians that the USA was our top trading partner and that we could ill afford to cross them, or lose their patronage?  Was this not the administration that kept answering we will of course take the stance with our neighbors to the south? Is this not the same Prime Minister that stood by while the USA forced our hand on soft wood lumber and extracted a deal in the end to get 5 billion dollars cut of what they owed and a promise to deliver unto them 60% of our oil, leaving Canadians to take a loss in the repayment of tariffs unjustly charged by the USA and ordered to give back by the world court?  My goodness going to China to sell our oil, who would have thought it possible of this regime.  My my how things have changed.  I remember when Jean Chretien suggested opening up the markets in China, what a stink was made by the hypocrites that are running down their now licking their wounds.

Now personally I think that this is what the Prime Minister and his government have become famous for the idea that the best plan of action is to go forward with no planning at all.  To exercise power and flex political muscle just to see what happens and if it works pout great, but if it fails so what it was never really a strategy going , or leading anywhere specific.  USA says no to pipeline give the oil to China.  I say trade with whom you like I have always said so but this was not the words of this government before the USA decided not to go forward with the Keystone Pipeline.  Now one might say good for the Prime Minister and his government it is about time we looked elsewhere, but I say they are pouting, they are throwing a temper tantrum like spoiled children who did not get their way.

Why was it so urgent to rile up Canadians over a deal that was not a sure thing?  Why did we not have a plan “B” in place or have other buyers for the oil already on board?  How many other deals of this nature costing billions of dollars are going through and being initiated on a we may take it in the end basis by the USA?  Why did we ignore the Americans when they said all the way through this thing that they saw problems when it came to our environmental safety guaranties?  Whether they find a buyer for the oil is not the problem for me right now, the problem for me right now is why and how could we commit to a project of this size and magnitude based solely on a trading partner who has repeatedly told us that they might not be able to go through with the plan because it violated their environmental laws?  Is this the action of a responsible government?

The solution to the problem is my other problem?  We tell the USA that we will not be bullied into creating a safe environment by them or anyone else and Canada is ours to screw up anywhere, anytime and anyway we like and if they insist on trying to force us to save ourselves that we are sure that we can find another county to sell our dirty oil to.  In fact we will go to one of the biggest polluters in the world for a starter.  We do not care about their record on labor, we don’t care about them being one of the biggest human rights  abusers in the world, we just care about them buying our oil and allowing us to stick our tongues out at the USA.  This is our solution as a nation to another nation backing out of a deal that they think will inevitably be a danger to the environment.  I think that this is just another example of Steven Harper‘s unwillingness to listen to common sense, his inflexibility on major issues and his ignorance when it comes to the science of environmental issues, or anything that is not based on the almighty dollar.

The midas touch in the end turned out to be a curse not a blessing King Harper

I asked the question of the young conservatives sitting at my table talking casually about letting the planet die because it would not happen in their life time, What good is all of the money, all of the power if it is going to kill the earth that we are living on and therefore our grandchildren? Their answer was as smug as their leaders in cabinet, who cares, not our problem , we will be long gone.  We have went in 6 short years from a respected nation who saw the need to form and organization of nations whose goal was to reduce the amounts of carbons we spew into our air that falls back to earth causing destruction of our environment and our peoples health to a nation with its head in the sand about such issues, no longer a member of the organization it started and a laughing-stock to all who respect science.  Harper is like a king midas, if he could he would turn all to gold forgetting that you can not wear it, breath it, smell it drink it, eat it.  It will not love you back, it will not give you comfort.  So as Canada becomes rich we lose or give up our honor, our credibility, the respect, love and admiration fo the world to amass wealth.  Harper is willing to lose our wetlands forests rivers and wildlife for the love of money. When there is nothing left and the pipeline springs a leak or two what will this government say to the people?  We could not have known?  We were just trying to balance the budget? We did it all for you?

 This is a wake up call Canada Stephen Harper has no plan except to boldly go where no man has gone before in Canadian history and it is all bad.  Whether or not he thinks that he is doing the right thing for Canada now becomes moot because he has proven that he has no compassion for anything.  I have seen people not care about the future, animals and nature, but care about their fellow-man and vice versa, but I have never before  seen a group of people ( Stephen Harper and the Conservative Party of Canada) who care about nothing but themselves and the here and now.  Politically motivated or not I must tip my hat to the Americans on this one.  The world needs another pipeline like this one like we need another environmental disaster; we don’t.  Wake up Stephen Harper and company, you are going the wrong way on every major issue including this one.

I am beginning to understand the issues surrounding Canada’s health care program, now that my health is starting to show signs of wear and tear brought on by the aging process.  There are so many little things that are not covered and the cost of those things are not cheap and add up quickly.  It is hard enough to find out that you are facing a fight with prostate cancer, but to add to that the stress of  knowing that certain therapies are not included on the list of things covered like the $90.00  therapy to assist you in being able to recover from the loss of the upper sphincter and the incontinence every man gets due to this.  It is not only a suggested therapy it is a therapy which the surgeon insists that you take before they operate.

The Viagra that you may need to help restore your ability to gain an erection after the prostate surgery is not covered by medicare either.  This in my judgement already says that if you are rich and can afford private medication and health insurance that you are entitled to certain things that are considered not necessary if you are poor. (Being able to hold your urine properly for one and have a normal sex life the other).  Who makes the decisions on these things on what the poor can have and what they can not.  What they can do without and what they must have?  Who decides what is a reasonable quality of life for the poor person.

The other problem with this sort of we will cover some things in the treatment of a disease is that people are not able to afford to do them for themselves.  Now on the surface $90.00 does not seem like a lot of money to most people, but to a senior, or a person on welfare, or another type of fixed income the $90.00 is a lot of money and since you can not get the operation without it, men are opting to wait and just observe the cancer instead of treating it.  This is just one form of cancer, how many other procedures are not covered in cancer alone and how many other treatments are considered not necessary by our Canadian government?  How many people are opting out of needed life saving surgeries, because they simply can not afford the medications and therapies need before, or after operations such as prostate cancer?  What would happen to them if our national health care plan was dropped, or further cut and the list of things not covered was to grow?

There is no fun in going to the dentist and finding out for example that your teeth are diseased, but can be saved but the procedure is not covered by welfare, or medicare and that your only alternative is to have your teeth taken out, pay for the treatment yourself, or only get the part of the operation, or procedure that is covered by our national health care plan.  Root canals are not covered and neither is the protective cap, so without exception everyone needing either will pay no less than $400.00. This procedure is the recommended, the most common and the most  used way to save a tooth, .  The cost of this procedure per tooth can run as high as $1500.00 per tooth.  The cheaper version of this operation which is without the cap cost $400.00, but comes with risk breaking off due to tooth break down and an ugly discoloration brought on by the killing of the nerve of the tooth.  What you are really getting for $400.00 is just a prolonging of the eventual tooth removal.  At any rate most people without money or private insurance are forced to have the tooth removed as they can not afford the $400.00 treatment.  Is this not already a 2 tier medical system?  Is it more important that a rich man have all of his teeth than a poor man?  What would happen if tomorrow there were more dental procedures cut from the list that our government will cover through medicare?

For years the Canadian government has allowed Canadians to feel they would never see the day when they would need health care coverage, because we as people realised that surgery life threatening, or not, mental health, dental health, therapies and medications  should  be provided to all Canadians eaually and not be dependent on how much money a Canadian citizen had.  We decided also that waiting times for surgeries should not depend on financial ability either and all citizens rich or poor would bee treated equally when it came to matters of health.  We also decided that  we as a nation could not trust private insurance companies who’s sole reason for being was to turn a profit to honor their obligations and pay the hospital bills and cost of the treatments before and after our operation.  This is no longer true of the government,  because the federal government has caused a situation where the average Canadian does not have health insurance adequate to cover medications, operations,or therapies and does not care. In the past every government said it was our right as Canadian citizens to have our government provide health care freely to every citizen,  Prime Minister Harper‘s plan to force the demise of the Medicare will not only make the average Canadian suffer, but will be a death sentence to the poor and the most fragile of Canadians.

I do understand the cost and the strain on the economy, but I do not understand what good balancing the budget does if it means that our quality of life across the board is diminished, or if it means that we have to sacrifice just one Canadian citizen to do it.  I understand the need to have an armed forces with up to date working weapons and their budget, but should this trump health care as a priority.  I liked the thinking when our government used to put its people first and I mean all of its people.  The reason for medicare and why it was taken on by the government of Canada has not changed, or the need for it gone. The fact is that it is needed more and more every day by more and more Canadians, says it is not time to cut it, or diminish it in any way.  Most average Canadians would not know where to find a coverage that covered everything they would need if they took ill and probably could not afford to pay for it if they could find it.

This seems to be yet another attempt by this government to bring us onside with an old USA demand that we reduce our quality of life so that we do not strain the USA’s economy when their citizens point at Canada and say how can they do it and why can’t we have it too?  We have heard from countless senators and congressman who say that the USA’s system does not work, but yet our Prime Minister Harper wishes to adopt it.  Will the poor be forced to show proof of insurance before entering a hospital, or simply get shipped to a lesser hospital at a risk of dying?  Will a hospital stay cause families to get into insurmountable debt and possible financial ruin, like we see in the USA?  Again I ask why is the price of a jet to kill people a higher priority and more acceptable investment then the saving of Canadian lives with affordable medical protection?

When the people’s needs of a country are ignored, or deemed not important by the actions of their government, people suffer and die.  When we say that only those who can afford it deserve the best medical treatment and medical attention people suffer and die.  If the goal of this budget balancing is to provide a better life for all Canadian citizens then it can not begin by killing off the less fortunate of the country with slashes and the out right cutting of medical services and medications.  This is murder as efficient and as cruel as a gas chamber, a firing squad, using toxic chemicals, or the bombing of ones own citizens.

I contend that what the Harper government is proposing to do to our health system is dangerous and obscene by its very implications.  This government should be expanding what is being covered by our health care plan, because what has been covered up to now just is not adequate.  Why with all of its wisdom has no one figured out a way to make medicare self-sustaining?  It is not enough for the government to cap what it gives the provinces and then say it is not our problem, we have done our part.  All Canadians are the responsibility of this government, or has that changed too according to the Harper government?

I would question why it is that we need this confederation and why we give the federal government our tax dollars if our health and welfare are not their problem, our education is not their problem and our infrastructure is not their problem and they are only the jurisdiction and the problem of the provinces.  It would seem that we as Canadian citizens are paying a whole lot of politicians in Ottawa to tell us that nothing that really matters to us in our everyday lives is their concern, or their responsibility because it is the jurisdiction and problem of our own province.  Surely we could as provinces fire them all in Ottawa and work out our own deals for trade and defence with just the one level of taxation and without all of the red tape of a federal system that seems to be powerless and a figure-head at best?  I was never a separatist, but lately I am beginning to wonder if there are any benefits and heart left to this confederation?

My argument only covers two things in the millions of things that are not covered. Obviously some things more life threatening than others, but that does not make them any less stressful, or needed.  What I seek is honesty and clarity and the understanding that someone out there in politician land understands that their decisions cause Canadian’s to literally choose to live, or die based on their financial capability and often this means unnecessary suffering, and quite often death.   I keep hearing about how great Canada is doing economically in comparison to the rest of the world and how much we must continue to cut needed services to maintain it and it reminds me of the guy who puts all of his pay in the bank and only pays his bills.  He  does not buy good food, does not have a social life, but when he reads his bank statement thinks that he is rich. When it is too late he realizes that he is alone, his health is poor and that his life has passed him by.  Now he has only his money, but it is of little comfort to him in his old age alone and dying and so he realizes too late that he can not take all the cash that he has acquired with him and he weeps for the riches that he has passed up along the way and the rich life he could have had.

Stephen Harper and his Conservative Government of Canada have done something that up to now no other leader of Canada could do, or felt the need to do to this country and to the Canadian people. Mr. Harper and his government have managed to divide the people of Canada using fear and have created laws to make what used to be considered  being a good, respected  Canadian citizen obsolete.  Mr. Harper by openly stating that real Canadians are those Canadians who can trace their ethnicity back to Europe and those of them that follow that culture, by religion, language, dress and yes even color has also divided this country in a very racist and closed-minded way. Racism that was frowned upon at least in public before, has now got the Conservative Government of Canada seal of approval.

Mr. Harper and his government have also put a monetary price on being a real Canadian, so that if you do not pay taxes like our First Nations people via treaty agreement, you are not a real Canadian. If you are poor and can not pay taxes, or find yourself on welfare, on unemployment insurance, or are unable to work  for a long  stretch of time, you are deemed not a contributing citizen, so you are not to be considered a real Canadian either.  You could have worked all of your life before losing your job, or had your pension stolen, or misused by some official in some company, but the circumstances of your poverty do not count with this Harper led government.  This government sees poor as poor and an embarrassment to Canada and an unwanted strain on the Canadian economy.

Mr. Harper and his government has laughed and talked down the idea of the great Canadian mosaic and unity of cultures found and practiced in our old version of being a law-abiding Canadian citizen and ripped the very fabric of Canadian ideals and our core values. Stephen Harper has rewritten the Canadian Charter Of Rights without consultation, using the power of his majority government to force through laws he could never have gotten assent to without it and in my judgement he is abusing the power of his position and his office.  In every area of social programing, he has either cut funding or reduced it so drastically, that what used to be guaranteed to the poor and most fragile of Canadians is no more.  What Mr. Harper has succeeded in doing is to  create a situation making a 2 tier system the only alternative for the provinces if they are to help their poor.

Stephen Harper has done another thing that no other Canadian politician in a leadership role has ever done before and that is to torture, or actively seek to destroy all those who would oppose him in thought, word or deed.  Mr. Harper has done this by   rewarding those who believe as he does and taking all that was from those who do not.  You do not have to take my word for it just go to the internet and check for yourself, it is all there.

This is the conversation that I was having  as I was waiting to have a crown and a cap put on at the dentist with people that I did not really know of different races, religions and cultures and monetary scale, but who consider themselves good respectable Canadians . While I waited for the technician to fix a problem a conversation about what it means to be a Canadian was asked and discussed.  Is being a Canadian a spiritual thing, a special food, a religion, or what if anything defines us as Canadians?

We discussed what I like to call the lost generation of Black youths, that were too busy protesting for equal rights to get an education.   A right that they were fighting for Black children all over the world, but were denying themselves. We talked about thousands of children in Canada who went looking for work without a high school diploma and found that they were still not going to get the good job, but now it had nothing to do with prejudice anymore, but with the fact that they could not compete and could not meet the job requirement educational criteria.  In reality they had shot themselves in the foot and forgot what was also needed to succeed once the racial barriers had been hurdled successfully.

I used to think that being Canadian was best summed up in our ideals, our rights and our freedoms. I used to think that being Canadian meant that we as a nation sought to ensure by law that everyone in this country had the right to be themselves and added to this country’s sense of multiculturalism by adding their unique dress, religion, food and language of their native land to the many already making up Canadian society.  In other words what made Canadians Canadian was being different in many ways and being the same in our core belief that no one need hide or forget where they came from. There would be no one, or, any law that would force anyone to give up anything that they wish to keep and there would be no law in Canadian culture to force any of the nasty racial, religious  bigotry, that causes the loss of rights and freedoms seen in other countries.   This is what Canada used to stand for and what being a Canadian used to mean.  It was something to cherish, something that took courage, something that made us stand out from other nations and something that made us the envy of the world when it came to being trust worthy, honourable in times of war and a reliable negotiator for peaceful solutions.  We were the nation, the people who led the world in doing what was right simply because it was the right thing to do.  We were not afraid to lose our identity because entrenched in our laws, in our culture was the desire to achieve a world without prejudice, a country added cultures to what it meant to be Canadian not took them away a country that acknowledged all of its rich heritages not just its European White ones, this is what being a Canadian was and this was the fearlessness that Canada and Canadians were held in such high esteem for.

Of course we always had following the laws of Canada as one of the stipulations for all people wishing to become new Canadians  was part of the deal, but we made sure that it meant the same for all Canadians and that it meant to respect all of the difference in all of our people as being just as Canadian as the next.  Until Stephen Harper started his nonsense when would we be afraid of losing our European heritage, customs and religions? Before Stephen Harper when did we make laws to change the way people dressed?  We do have 2 official languages of the country, but it was not a Canadian citizenship requirement to not speak the language of your native land, we used to welcome you with it.  Being Canadian was brave and required a willingness to stand for the weak of the world in spite of the call to do different from our neighbors and put ourselves between those who would oppress the weak, the freedom of religion and the seekers of genocide.  We did not go to war to hurt we went to war to save.  This is what it used to mean to be a Canadian.  Not the colour of your skin, not the food you ate, not the God you prayed to, not the clothing you chose to wear, not the country you originated from, but who you were inside and your capacity to make everyone feel like Canadians in Canada, is what made you a proud fearless Canuck.

Being a Canadian never meant who are the real Canadians. As far back as I can remember I did not know of a national effort to separate the people of Canada along such lines legally and declare the heritage of one of the countries many sub cultures( European) to be the true culture of Canada and the one that all people wanting to be considered Canadian needed to take as their own and embrace in its entirety.  This is what is being asked now of all Canadians and I find this to be not very Canadian at all.  This need to assimilate rather than accept and cherish is scary, but unfortunately it is what it takes to be called a real Canadian these days.

So what does it mean to be a real Canadian in my understanding of the Harper government’s words and actions? In my opinion what this new way of being Canadian requires is us all to be American.  We should seek power and money the American way.  It means letting go, or hiding all of your past in favor of our Canadian  culture; it means telling you in no uncertain terms upon your arrival to Canada, ”If you think your country, your religion, your culture, your language was so great, then you should have stayed there”. Fit in, or  stay there is our response to people wanting to immigrate here, or flee oppression and seek sanctuary here.  This is the face of the New Canada and of the New Real Canadians and it in my opinion is ugly beyond words.

We now seek to define being a Canadian in law instead of in spirit and we are having a rough go of it, because this in itself is not the Canadian way.

Imagine this, in the province of Quebec, in the city of Montreal to be exact we have the Parti Québécoise and the civic opposition party both up in arms, because the Montreal Canadians have hired a unilingual hockey coach.  The Parti Québécois make the insane claim that this action somehow undermines the French population of Quebec and our distinct society.  Has everyone in this country lost their minds and gone totally daft?  Bridges ready to fall down, more routes and highways closing for fear of collapse and are a danger to those using them and we worry that the coach of a hockey team, one of the teams many coaches is English-speaking only.  So worried was the municipal opposition party  that it brought the matter to the floor of the city council and demanded that the mayor wade into the issue and give his opinion.  These same fools made a statement that the Montreal Canadians having this one English only speaking coach out of the many bilingual speaking coaches some how undermined the French flavor of the city.  My goodness is it any wonder that this province and indeed this city finds itself in such a state of dilapidation, if this is all that concerns our politicians?  My fellow Canadians, this country, this province and yes even this city must look like a bunch of backward, uncouth, uneducated, stuck in a time warp, group of neanderthals, incapable of rational thinking when we carry on so, but then the countries of Europe have all sunken to this assimilate or get out mentality as well.  This anti muticultalism sentiment, that is driven by fear that their culture, religion and yes even their very existence is not strong enough to with stand the test of time on its own and is so weak by nature that it is in need of laws to prop them up and give their way of life a false  strength and security.

Our federal government goes one step further and attacks everything that is not European by birth right. Imprisoning refugees, changing laws that undermine the rights and freedoms of those it considers not real Canadians.  From Campaign Blue Blindfold, to the rewriting of  Canadian Immigration Law the federal government has made it clear that we are only open to receive refugees and immigrants who practice a certain religion and who will not in time tip the balance of our so-called European heritage and in time out number and thereby make the real Canadians, “those of European heritage” a minority in this country.

 What the governments of Europe, the USA and now Canada are seeking to accomplish can not be done, or at least maintained. It has been tried before, through the ages, by the Huns, the Ottomans, the Greeks, the Romans, the Dutch, the Spanish and Nazi Germany just to name a few and they all ended in defeat. If a country does not grow and accept change treating its people fairly it will fall as sure as any of these empires mentioned above fell. To say the words,”We are not empire building and we are liberating does little if your actions belie your words”, but this is the subject for another post.

 I would concede that there are indeed 2 types of Canadians living in Canada today and that the Harper government has succeeded in spreading its fear and bigotry throughout the land and he and his followers who claim to be the real Canadians are on one side of the Loonie. On the other side of the Loonie are the other Canadians, who think that being Canadian is something that we feel. A philosophy that we share that God created all men equal and that being Canadian means being willing to grow and appreciate all of the difference in our food, religion and dress and our individual cultures and blend them all together, not allowing them to drive us apart, that makes us truly distinct, and symbolizes our way of life and in fact makes us Canadians. Which side of the Loonie are you on?

What is the difference between the rich and the poor of Canada? I say this is the difference and it has been happening for far too long.

How can you stay mad when looking at that smile and into those eyes? I can't and he knows it.

We can all be nice and play when we are feeling at our best, but showing love to children often means doing all of these things when we are just plain tuckered out as well. I ended  my last post about Liam and I by stating that I was going to find another way to teach Liam to mind adults without being aggressive and scaring him; my tired state and his being two years old really tested my resolve. Here is our story.

Liam And Grandpa / A Love Story

Well my daughter who is 36 weeks pregnant needed a night of rest and since I am Liam’s favorite toy, she asked if I would mind watching him from Saturday morning to Sunday morning?  Without hesitation I said yes and without much thought to weather (I shovel snow) and work schedule (I move furniture also).  Liam is in his terrible two’s stage, add to that he is a whole lot spoiled and that I had been working just about round the clock shoveling snow and moving furniture by time Liam arrived on Saturday morning and was exhausted, I think it is fair to state that we had the makings of a very rough visit.

I shoveled the last shovel of snow sometime around midnight, hurried home, grabbed a little to eat, washed up and tried to get some sleep so that Liam could have my full attention in the morning.   The trouble is that I had not gotten a good night sleep in like three days, so I tossed and turned all night long and when 8am came I felt like I had just gone to bed.

Liam arrived fresh as a freshly plucked daisy and ready to play. Liam also arrived loaded down with his clothing, favorite videos (Thomas, Dora The Explorer, Diego, and Toy Story) and lots of play dough.  He was so happy to see me and I him that I forgot all about being tired. We jumped right into playing with me making things out of the play dough for him; we were the boys as he likes to refer to me, his father and himself when we are interacting with each other.

I was surprised with how fast lunch time came and surprised at how long I was able to play with Liam in good humor, not having slept too good.  The television has to continuously play the cartoon channel, or one of those videos mentioned above and I know them all word for word and so does Liam.  Any attempts to change the channel and get something on a little more grown up is met with Liam first stopping what he is doing and next looking at you like what do you think you are doing?  If you do not change the channel back quick enough Liam will request help with what he is doing and that means playing down on the floor.

There is something about the way Liam has of looking me in the eyes, unshielded, so vulnerable and wide open to hurt or love that makes me want to do good and to do right by him.  His innocence and vulnerability seems to keep me rising to the challenge, but Liam’s smile and little laugh are really what does the trick.  We are buddies and as such have an understanding, when playing or watching television, he is the boss (smile).  We get on each other’s nerves from time to time, but that is what buddies do and our love for each other must be able to over come anything that would harm, or get in the way of being buddies.

The afternoon passed quickly with the singing of songs, marching around the house pretending to be ducks flapping our wings and saying quack - quack - quack at the end of which we would laugh and start all over again.  We made dinosaurs out of play dough, built castles out of wooden blocks and played with his cars in his 2 story garage over and over again never seeming to tire of it, or of each other. I was exhausted, but I motored on, with Liam having enough energy for the both of us and enough creativity to come up with new ways to help Grandpa entertain him.

Well the sun did finally go down, Liam took his bath, ate his supper and went down for the night without a hitch.  Did I say Liam took his bubble bath without a hitch? Well that is not exactly true.  I left him alone seated in the tub for just two minutes to get his things for bed together and in that short time I heard the sounds of little  feet moving around in the bath and water going down the drain. That could only mean one thing so off to the bathroom I ran and sure enough Liam was standing up, full of soap from the bubbles and the bath tub was empty except for the soap bubbles on the floor of the tub.  There stood Liam with the biggest grin on his face holding the plug to the drain in his little hand, quite proud of himself proclaiming that he was finished and had let out the water.  Well I washed him down hugged him and put him in his pajamas.  Liam’s grin was infectious and we laughed together enjoying the silliness of the moment.  With supper over and Liam bathed and ready for  bed, my exhaustion came flooding back and I felt like I was hit by a train.  Within the hour it was bedtime for the little guy and putting him down went without a hitch and I was counting on him falling asleep and staying asleep until morning. I had enjoyed the day, but was glad that I finally would be able to get some sleep.

Scared that I would not hear him if he got out of bed I decided to go to sleep on the sofa, after I wrote a little on my laptop to unwind. I am not sure when I fell asleep, but I do know that when I woke up it felt like it was only a few minutes of sleep.  I was awakened by the sound of Liam swinging on the upper rungs of his bunk bed, whispering I am a monkey eek – eek and then letting himself fall to the mattress followed by a chorus of giggling.  It was his inability to stop himself from giggling that alerted me that he was awake and when looking at the clock I was a little ticked off to see that it read 3am in the morning. One would think that he would have stopped swinging and dropping to the mattress when he saw me standing in the doorway with a not so happy look on my face, but not my little buddy.  Liam just smiled up at me and said, “look Grandpa, Liam is a monkey eek - eek – eek”, followed by fits of laughter once again letting go of the overhead slats falling and bouncing off of the mattress.  I was a little mad but remembering the promise I made to myself concerning Liam’s discipline, I decided to use my superior intellect and a little child’s psychology to get Liam to fall back asleep.  I picked him up kissed him and brought him into the living room and sat him front of the television to watch television not geared to children, hopefully for the little guy to fall asleep bored.

Well at 4am he asked if it was time to wake up and play I knew that I was the one who was bowing to the will of a superior intellect who was employing psychology on me and doing it very well.   At 5am Liam decided to explore what was at the bottom of a large jar filled with water in which I was rooting some plant cuttings.  I was caught dozing and awoke just as he tipped it over missing himself but the water was pouring onto my sofa arm and yes Liam had that infectious grin on his face.  When we finished cleaning up the mess and having a little chat about touching things Liam  was in need of his pacifier. Liam snuggled under my arm, leaned his little head on me and sleepy eyes fighting sleep continued to fight sleep and watch television.  I knew there would be no sleep for me that night in fact the night was closing in on morning and the only chance of sleep would come with the arrival of his mom and my little Liam’s departure.

At 5:45 I was being woke up by Liam after my dosing off once again,  needing to go to the bathroom. Once he was sitting on the toilette he informed me he needed to do his business, which means #2, but was refusing to do it unless I would give him 2 pieces of chocolate.  I of course told him no chocolate and please hurry up and do his business.  Liam did not like that and slapped himself just before he slapped me.  I tapped his bare leg, he started to cry and then we started to laugh although I am not sure who started to laugh first, but it was a funny moment in my small bathroom. At 6:30 am Liam was asking for his play dough again and with the sun beginning to shine through the window I could no longer claim it was not time to get up and play and so to Liam’s squeals of delight, exhausted Grandpa was put away and Grandpa, Liam’s favorite toy was back ready to do and be the best toy that a totally exhausted Grandpa could be.

Taking a shot in the dark I instant messaged my daughter on her computer at 7 am saying hello and saying that Liam and I had been up all night just so she would know when she woke up and perhaps come for him a little earlier, but I did not ask her to.  Then the miracle happen 2 minutes after sending the instant message I saw the computer signaling that Linda was typing and I smiled to myself.  The thought that came to my mind was, “God never gives us more than we can handle”.  Linda told me that as soon as the father was awake that they would come for Liam not right away, but not after 9 am.  It was more than I had hoped for and was going to give me the strength and energy to deal with Liam who was rapidly trying my patience as his exhaustion started to set in.

I know some of you are saying that I should have tried to put him down after a bit. Well I did that and when I checked on him he was playing with the new cat toys usually hidden from view behind the door of the room. He had found the opened package and spilt the package of cat nip on the floor and when I was cleaning it up asked me what I was doing and why. I explained to him what I was doing and that he was at fault to which he grinned and said it was not him, it was Grandpa. I guess I could have insisted that he lay back down, but after that I would not have gotten much sleep anyway wondering what he was getting into so I figured might as well have him right in front of me until he fell asleep, but it just did not happen.  Liam and I are still working on his discipline, but I am not quite sure who is training who right now (smile).

True to her word Linda showed up when she said and even though we had a great time it was time for my little buddy to go home.  He hugged and kissed me goodbye and I was so happy that I had not allowed myself to get angry although the chance for anger had been there several times.  Liam and I are true buddies now and our love has been thoroughly tried and tested.  Liam fell asleep as soon as he got into the car and was a little cranky in spurts during the day.  I could not fall asleep until 1 in the afternoon on the other hand (smile).   As grueling as this Liam’s and Grandpa’s adventure must seem, Liam asked to come back to my house after his supper that night to play with his favorite toy and I am looking forward to having him back when I am not so tired.

I realised that day that anyone can play and sing  with a young child when we are well rested and full of energy, but playing and singing with them even when you are tired spells love with a capital L.

The message on Liam's shirt says it all and his actions are speaking volumes. lol... This is my little buddy and I love him and he loves me.

How many children have to die before the law is changed?

Ask and you will receive. Remember that Quebec cardiologist Guy Turcotte who stabbed his two young children to death while they were asleep in their beds? The guy who a Quebec judge and jury agreed was so depressed that his wife had left him for another man and in the fog of depression stabbed his children 47 times not realizing that he was killing them.  They also understood that  it did not matter that he was a doctor and that he had looked on the internet for ways to commit suicide, before deciding to stab his children to death.  Understanding these things the jury and the judge came to the conclusion that he could not be held criminally responsible for the deaths, of his 2 children, by reason of temporary insanity?  Well he wants out of the hospital now and feels that he is no longer a threat to society, or his wife, or her new partner.  Guy Turcotte never once gave up his right to petition for his freedom and let the hospital decide his fate, because he thought submitting to that would make him appear guilty.   Does this mean that he thinks he is not guilty of killing his children? If Guy Turcotte thinks that he is not guilty of killing his children does that mean that he feels no remorse in killing them? If that is true what is to stop him from killing again if the insanity plea and following verdict has given him absolution? The doctors and the judicial system were ready to let him out the very day the decision was rendered in court, but the public outcry made them decide to hold off.  What I do not understand is 1st of all how the hospital could claim that he was no longer a threat to anyone in one breath and then to appease the angry crowd reverse the decision and hold him?  I am gad that they did, but I do not understand why and how they did what they did.

What are we to think of these doctors that go before the court and testify if they are not sure they made the right decision  after the fact.  What did they base their testimony on when they helped to set him free from doing any prison real-time.  Holding him after saying he was no danger only makes such testimony suspect and makes me wonder if  such testimony should be permitted at all?  Why should we believe that he is okay now if that is what the doctors determine and why should we believe he is not if that is what the doctors determine. They have flip-flopped all over this issue and I find their credibility suspect at the very least.

I guess that is the life he now has without the kids he murdered in their sleep

Guy Turcotte, wants his life back, all of it.  He would like to have a life and a future that he denied his children when he stabbed them 47 times causing the end of their little innocent lives.  They were 5 years old and 3 years old when their father stabbed them, with his 5-year-old son screaming no daddy no.  This was his own testimony he remembered that, but claims he just could not stop himself.  Guy Turcotte could not stop himself right after killing his son and hearing him scream no daddy no daddy as he walked down to where his daughter 3 years old was sleeping and stabbed her to death as well.  He then said he could not find the knife he used to kill his children to use on himself and that is why he is still alive today.  In my opinion this guy is sick in the head and if being depressed over his wife leaving him caused him to go off temporarily and kill his 2 babies, what guaranties can the doctors possibly offer the public that he will not go off again? What if his new lover decides to leave him, or he is denied the right to practice medicine?  What guarantee can this board give to the public and his wife that he will not re – offend?  Who will be held accountable if this lunatic commits another murder? We no it will not be his lawyer, the judge, any of the jury, not the government and having been found to be a nut probably not him either.

With this man getting literally away with murdering his 2 children while they slept how does the new safe streets bill working to keep other children from suffering the same fate?

I guess this slips under the wire and the radar of the tough new Harper anti crime law? I guess this was not a nasty enough, or brutal enough crime to force the Harper government to get involved?  I guess he did not fit the tough on crime profile?  Is it that the Harper government only wants to get tough on children and refugees?  I guess I am a little disturbed at the way the government sticks it nose into anything to do with money, or how to keep Canada’s European race and heritage pure and multi ethnic free, but will stay silent when it comes to child murder.  Not even a statement out of the federal government and do not tell me they do  not want to get involved in an ongoing investigation, because that is what the Harper government is famous for, ” getting involved where they have no business and influencing the outcome of all sorts of decisions”.

Lawyers,doctors judges and the average Canadian let this guy get away literally with murder

I blame this  government, the medical profession and the court system for the Guy Turcottes of the world.  The rich guys who can afford the great lawyers, the judges that look the other way and say congratulations to jurors that give bad decisions.  These people are the whores of the system, the people who for a price can get you your freedom at the expense of other peoples safety and lives.  The doctor who goes to court and for a fee, paid to say what the defense wants, knowing they are releasing a murderer.  The judge who can be bought, or sees nothing wrong with a multiple murderer virtually getting off scot-free, the lawyer who down plays the murder of two innocent children in their sleep and does not request that his client remain behind bars until the system deems him fit to be released, or even request release.

I am no danger to anyone. I have punished my wife enough by killing her babies. I would just like to get on with my life now please.

I find it amazing that everyone using this temporary insanity defense snaps out of it on the spot right after the verdict is rendered and knows within minutes of the verdict that they are no longer a threat to society.  I think that they should have to do their sentence in therapy and should not be considered innocent, because they are not. The I did not know defense, is no excuse for anything else under the law.  I think that the defendant should get the medical help that they require and then should serve their time.  Who will give those children back their lives, like the father is requesting that we give him back his?  Who can take away the pain heartache and anguish the mother of his children must live with everyday, while all the good doctor can think about is getting his life back as if none of this ever happened?  Oh yes lets put this guy back on the streets with a licence to practice medicine and wait and see what he does next when he does not get what he wants and decides to get away with murder again.  Maybe it will be a boss or a co-worker, maybe he will get married and have more kids, but we can rest assured about one thing about this type of murdering coward and that is at the end of the day he will be alive wishing he was dead and claiming once again that he was temporarily insane and that it was not really his fault.

Laws and cheap talk without a way to enforce them or a political will to enforce them will see more children killed in their sleep and the ones responsible for killing them escaping justice.

Think about this for a minute, if we mistreat our pets we go to jail,  all sorts of animal rights groups and activists get up our butts demanding and end to our careers. Politicians wade into the quagmire with their opinions and the news media tears you apart like a rabid dog,  (like  the football player in the USA) and yet when it comes to the abuse and murder of women and children you can hear a pin dropping and hitting the floor.  The silence is deafening and oh so revealing.  Our values are way off kilter.  Not that we should not be fighting against the abuse of animals, but should we not at the very least be fighting just as hard to end the  abuse of women and children?  I think we have been led astray by the power-hungry, blood thirsty, greedy, money loving politicians and big business who can only gauge success by looking at their accounting sheets.  Only the bottom line financially can not be touched and everything else is fair game.  Housing for the poor, welfare, unemployment insurance, education, First Nation treaty obligations, veterans affairs, the arts , foreign aid and anything that does not bring in a dollar profit are deemed acceptable losses against the war against the nation’s debt and balancing the budget.

Who will give her back her life? Who will give her justice?

This was not just a murder of his 2 babies, but this was a direct assault on his wife.  They died, because he wanted to get at his wife, to punish her for leaving him and getting involved with someone else.  What will tick him off next and what if in the future another woman leaves him, or he does not get back his medical license how will this affect his mental health and general state of mind?  Who will make his wife feel safe, or does the system give a damn? She will be forced to endure a life without her 2 babies, while this murderer gets to move on with is life seemingly only concerned about himself.  How is this fair to her and respectful to the loss of life of her 2 babies? Who will give this women her life back and why was he not charged with spousal abuse and assault as well?

Is it fair that they died and their killer gets to go free?

In conclusion I would like to say that when a crime like murder  is pleaded as a temporary insanity case and is won then the defendant should be forced to submit to the discretion of the mental experts in charge of his or hers case at the institution they are doing the therapy in and they in turn should be held accountable for the decisions that they make that result in the harm, or wrongful death of another human being .  The news that this guy actually refused to be voluntarily incarcerated to get further help claiming it would make him appear guilty, tells me that he has not yet admitted to himself that  he is indeed guilty and is in need of more help.  Most people with mental problems do not know they have them and that is why we should not be listening to one word that he has to say about his being okay now and ready to rejoin society.

We must once again reevaluate what it is to be a success and what makes us a failure.  Can we consider ourselves successful as a society if we allow our people to starve, to die agonising deaths on the streets, if we allow the deaths of children and women due to abuse.  Is it good enough for a government to simply reduce the debt to be considered doing its job? Is it good enough for a government to put the country in the blue as far as its credit rating is concerned by drastically cutting the budgets of its social programs or wiping out all of its social programs to achieve this monetary success and claim to be a successful government?  I think not.

Have you noticed that most press and news agencies have become more like the gossip papers they used to try so hard to distance themselves from and do you ever wonder why?  This is partially brought on because these news agencies have gotten way too big and need to generate vast amounts of money to stay alive and so the resort to bad journalism and gossip peddling to grab their share of that market share.  When was the last time that you could follow a story started in any forum of the Canadian news media from its beginning to its end?  Pick any story, be it a war that we are or were involved in, what happened to the refugees from Sri Lanka  incarcerated in our jails, the doctor who killed his children, just to name a few and tell me how any of them ended and how hard if possible was it to get the information by following up the story in the Canadian news media.

One of the other reasons this happens is because the news media seems content to wait for the story.  It only seems to go where it is invited these days.  If the politician does not call a press conference then the story dies. No more digging for the story means that if a politician for example does not want you to know what happened to the refugees from Sri Lanka,  they simply do not talk about them or what is going on with them and make sure that they delay any major action on the cases until it loses its news worthiness, or front page appeal.  In the old days of smaller news agencies this would have sent that little guy scurrying to find out what was being hidden, digging and ferreting out the story, following it to the end and in so doing forcing out the truth and the conclusion to the story.

In the old days of honest reporting these questions would have had to be answered to end a story:

• How are their trials going?
• How many have been deported?
• When are these people to be released?
• Why are they still being held?

If the press does not care, then why don’t we as the readers, listeners and watchers of the news, as Canadians?  Where has our desire to know the answers gone?

One reason gossip reporting works so well is that there is a beginning, a follow through and an end to the story.  Would you keep buying a book that did not have an ending, that started to tell you the story and then just ended without a conclusion? I do not think that you would and yet this is exactly what you allow the Canadian press to do every time you buy a news paper.  Would you watch a television program or television mini series if you knew from the beginning that there would be no conclusion and that you would be just left hanging in the end?  I do not think so, but this is exactly what you are doing when you watch one of the Canadian networks news shows. Tell me for example what was the final outcome of the postal strike in Quebec this year and where is it now in terms of court challenges and the like, or is it just over a done deal?  Next tell me if you found that out on the news, in the paper or are you relying on information traveling from one person to another or what is known as rumor.  If it is what I think and you like the rest of us are relying on gossip and rumor the question why that is so begs to be answered?

Why was the news of some stories deemed something of importance when they broke and in a short time  deemed  a non story?

• What became of Paula Ortiz and her family? The last I heard in the news was that she was too sick to be deported and then the story died with her on the stretcher.
• Where are the digging questions and the news coverage of our dropping out Kyoto after us being the country who pushed for it?
• Why are these not a major stories to cover?

I am not saying that we do not know the answers to these questions, I am asking why we can’t get follow-up in the Canadian news?

I think that for the most part the problem is that we as Canadians are known for taking everything in stride and not wanting to make waves for our government or anything else.  We take most things that happen with a shrug of the shoulders and see people who complain too much as trouble makers, anarchists and not really Canadians.  We have bought into the idea that a good Canadian citizen elects a government and then lets it do its job without interfering no matter what.  We can be counted on by our government of the day to get angry at what we deem unfair, bad government and leadership but that this rarely last longer then a few weeks and if we are ignored or promised a result in a few weeks no one will really expect an answer , or change and the whole thing can just go on quietly our protest  having run out of steam. Civil right, human rights, labor rights and even our Canadian Charter of Rights can be ignored and trampled on and we take to the streets, march a 1/4 of a mile, we bang drums, sing and then go home.  The radio, the news papers and the television crews cover it all for 1 day to a week and the story dies, because we as Canadians citizens have moved on and are not demanding the end to the story and if we do not want the end of the story there is no advertising value in it.

Ask yourselves this which of these stories, or any other major story of late whether they be local or national have you thought about, discussed, or felt short-changed in the coverage of?  Do you feel that you know what happened in the end of any of them and do you think that you could pick up a paper, look on the internet and find the answer in the Canadian news media?

For example:

• What happened to the doctor who killed his 2 little children and was getting out because the mental facility he was in deemed him no longer a threat to society since his children were dead and that this was an isolated incident? I know he went back in for more observation after a public outcry of rage, but there has been no follow-up that I can find.
• We are involved in wars all over the world some with United Nations approval and some without, maybe with good reason and maybe not but where is the coverage other than the first day headlines fed to the news agencies by the government in news conferences and briefings?
• Airline workers, postal workers forced back to work by the federal government and no follow up anywhere? Keystone pipeline story killed , or at least not receiving much press,why?

The press has gotten lazy and cheap. It no longer seeks out the news story but rather waits for it to be handed to them by the powers that be.  The only stories deemed news worthy are those who will generate a cash value and advertisers are the corrupt people that wish the story not to be and so they die under the threat of losing the advertiser, making the government angry and why bother the Canadian readers, watchers and listeners of the news really do not care to hear the follow-up anyway.   This whole country is concerned and preoccupied with the all mighty dollar and so are our finders and tellers of the news, so if we do not seem to care the stories of yesterday die in short order and we are left to guess, to assume, but never truly know, because there is no Canadian news follow-up by the Canadian news agencies on Canadian issues whether they be local by nature or national.  Does anybody even know how to write to your local paper and get your story published as human interest story?  Do they even do that anymore? If not, why not?

I think that the Canadian news agencies and their reporters and editors and publishers have all drop the ball and we as Canadian citizens have allowed our expectations of how we would like the news covered drop too low.  We are becoming sheep, who liked to be told everything is all right even when we know in our hearts that everything is all wrong.   I think that the Canadian news agencies are giving to us what we find acceptable and take as normal now.  If you answered the questions I put to you honestly I believe that you found that you did not know the answers to most of these questions because the answer was not out there for the average citizen to find out.  I think that you also finding out that on most of these issues what is  even more revealing is that for most of you it really did not matter whether you know the outcome of these stories or not and have never even thought about them twice when they fell out of radar and out of the news and became, “One Of The Greatest Stories Never Finished”.

Is this the new Canadian way of dealing with its people?

Here we go again as Canadians about to lose another right it would seem, because Stephen Harper‘s chosen people can not take hearing the truth about Israel.  Since when is it a crime in Canada to speak the truth?  Since when is it a hate crime for a Canadian citizen to speak the truth as they see it?  If all this is true and to speak poorly of a government, a person, a race, or even a religion is to be considered a hate crime, then why does this theory, this ideology, this hate law only apply to the Jewish race and to Israel?  Please do not tell me of the atrocities inflicted on the Jews during the Holocaust, by Nazi Germany and how the world sat by while millions of Jews were exterminated; the same was done during the African slave trade, in which the Jewish race took an active part.  Why is it not a hate crime for them to even now deny it? We in North America have wiped from the face of this earth whole tribes of our first Nations peoples, put the rest on reservations where they still live in the most deplorable conditions this very day.  The treaties we forced them to sign have not been upheld by us, which to me means we are descendants of occupying terrorists and little more than criminals ourselves seeking to protect what we have stolen and  never belonged to us. Why is doing nothing to resolve this issue not considered a hate crime and a crime against humanity?  Does any of this sound familiar?

People who rewrite history to suit themselves, or to put themselves in a good light are an ignorant people destined to keep making the same mistakes.  One must never try to stifle the truth, because to do so is to live a lie. The only thing worse than being the thief that we as Canadians already are, is to be a liar and that is fast becoming the normal way to do business for our Canadian government and an acceptable practice by its people.  If all this sounds familiar it is because this is the history of man making the same mistakes, using the same excuses over and over again throughout history to dominate each other. There is no country and no people on this earth exempt from the guilt when it comes to either trying to conquer the world, or oppress its people, or other people for religious reasons, greed, or a growing need to expand to survive, but none before Israel has been given the right to do so without having to fear an honest fair fight.  None before Israel claimed that God made their race the chosen race and therefore claimed that their every undertaking was sanctioned by God and needed no human law to back them up.  The only problem is that the people the Israelis are trying to convince of this right by God’s direction, believe in another God.

I do not think that any race should be subject to racism, prejudice, or hatefulness, so at what cost do we continue to deny the truth when it is staring us in the face?  Is covering up the misdeeds of Israel worth trampling on the rights of Canadians who grow weary of the aggressive behaviour and unfair occupation of  another people and the use of the same tactics applied to the Jews of Europe during the Holocaust? This Canadian citizen thinks not.

Israel has a nuclear bomb, but we all pretend that they are still without one, or that they can be trusted not to use it.  We pretend that we can not hear it when Israeli leaders call for the death of every Palestinian, man woman and child, because they consider all of the race nothing but terrorist and the children terrorists in the making, who will one day grow up to be a threat to the State of Israel, the Israeli people and therefore to the whole Jewish race.  We pretend in Canada that we do not see the wall going up separating Palestinian families, the increase in  settlements  that can be called outpost in occupied lands by Israel.  We turn a blind eye to the murdering of civilians at sea in international waters by the State of Israel and continue to back Israel’s strangle hold on the Gaza. We as a nation even say it is okay to send children to jail without fair legal representation under military law even though it violates United Nations code of conduct where children are concerned (which Canada and Israel have signed).  In spite of all of this we hang Israel on our trophy wall as a symbol of the only democracy in the region.  This is like saying to all in the Middle East, I know my brother is a thief and a murder, who is killing innocent men, women and children, but he is of my family and so I must side with him and protect him , no matter what; be patient I am sure he will grow out of it, after all he is still just a young nation and expect them to wait.  If this is not bad enough we wish now to tell Canadians that they can not speak out against Israel’s bad actions, but must say nothing at all if we have nothing good to say about Israel, or risk going to jail for it.

It would seem that you can say anything you want about Muslims in Canada and the government position is, “The truth is the truth and maybe Muslims should change their ways if they want to be seen in a different light”. Muslims and everyone else it would seem are expected to leave all that they are at the door when they immigrate to Canada and want to become Canadians, so why are Israeli’s not expected to do the same?  The mayor spoke the truth about the State of Israel and called it as he saw it and that in my opinion is well within his rights and violates no law.  I would suggest  to those who were offended by what he said, should also take a look at the man in the mirror and make the change. This is the only way that people will begin to see the State of Israel in a different light and talk differently about it and its people.  This is the statement that was made by the host of a talk show and Huntingdon mayor in a report by CBC.  I will leave the link so you can read the whole report. I do see where it could ruffle a few feathers, but I also view it as his personal opinion and his right to have it and voice it privately, or publicly, as Jewish people and other Canadians voice their opinions every day on Palestine and other subjects without censure.

Report by CBC, begins as follows,” mayor called Israel an apartheid regime and a country that doesn’t deserve to exist on his French-language talk show.  Stéphane Gendron, host of Face à Face on V Television Network and mayor of Huntingdon, a small town 75 kilometres southwest of Montreal, made the comments on his show last month. He also said he supports a boycott of a store in Montreal that sells Israeli-made shoes.”  The report goes on to say that he and the station are under investigation, because of the anti Israeli statements and that the mayor should be fired and the station should make a public apology, because we are a country and a province dedicated to the State of Israel. I say hogwash let the truth come out.  Being the only true democracy in the area as Israel and its fanatical supporters  fashion Israel as being, should not allow them the right to commit atrocities and get away with them. It is time to tear up Israel’s get out of jail free pass; they have abused the privilege.

• The state of Israel was created on land inhabited by someone else without their consent.
• The state of Israel has increased their land base by occupying other nations lands it seized in war-time and violating treaties it has signed.
• Israel to this day refuses to give back lands it has stolen even though they know that no peace can be achieved while they are still holding them.
• Israel killed civilians in international waters off  the Gaza strip.
• Israel is  guilty of using the same treatment used by the  Nazis to destroy them on Palestinians.  Separating families, restricting the movement of Palestinians, building all sorts of check points, special work passes and the forced taking of unjust citizen oaths.
• Israel tortures it captives and prisoners of war.

These are just a few of the facts that make this meal a hard dish to swallow for most Jewish people and apparently the Western Alliance which includes Canada, but they are the truth none the less and you can not run from it.  The world does not and will not tolerate Muslim terrorist, but no longer will they tolerate the increasingly obvious other threat to world peace out there, which is the State of  Israel.  Unfortunately Israelis have only learned:

• To hate and how to spread hatred from the Holocaust.
• They have remembered how to take what does not belong to them as all was taken unjustly from them during the Holocaust.
• They have learned how to torture as they were tortured during the Holocaust.
• They have learned how to build walls and fences making ethnic ghettos as they were fenced in during the  Holocaust.
• They have learned how to kill and murder as they were killed and murdered during the Holocaust.

What is very evident is that they have not learned to do unto other as you would have done onto you. They like the people who did such unspeakable things to them seek safety and shelter from their accusers in denial of the facts and a hope that the world will buy into their denials. Can all that is said and reported that does not put Israel in a good light simply be part of some grandiose conspiracy to be banned? Is it all a big lie aimed to destroy Israeli good will and Israels right to exist? If Israel is guilty of just one of these charges who do you think should be under investigation and facing charges Israel, or the mayor of Huntington?

• Does the State of Israel negotiate in good faith?
• Does the State of Israel honor its treaty obligations?
• Does the State of Israel torture it’s captives?
• Does the State of Israel see peace beneficial to it as nation if that peace requires it to give back the land that it is occupying illegally?
• Does the State of Israel respect its allies or their opinions?
• Does the State of Israel represent a nuclear threat in the Middle East?
• Has the State of Israel threatened to use nuclear weapons against attackers and even others if it feels its security threatened?
• What is  Goliath and why does Israel have a right to use it under any circumstances?

If you answered these questions without trying to talk about the other side you will understand finally that Israel is not without blame in this mess and that the problems created by Israel’s constant aggression and bad acts of faith need to be resolved.  This means an end to the denial and the punishing of people who have the courage to stand their ground and speak out against tyranny.  It is not Anti Semitic to tell the truth about Israel, it is just uncomfortable for most Jewish people to face, hear and come to terms with. The fact that the State of Israel has become the same as the people who almost wiped them off the face of the earth is not an easy thing to admit for the Jewish race, or a mistake that the western nations are willing to admit to making.  Once again I say maybe instead of trying to vilify every person that speaks out, the Anti-Semitic watch dogs should concentrate on making the State of Israel a better place.

I am sure the warped minds of the Nazis thought that they too were justified in their  desire to see no Jews left on the planet, but luckily for the Jewish race the rest of the free world did not see it that way.  I wonder if this applies to the Palestinians and other Muslims as well, or will we continue as Canadians and democratic nations to ignore their fight to exist, while we jail, or attempt to punish all who would tell the truth about their plight?  Why have we in North America, including Canada not moved to end the anti BLACK  sentiment where Blacks are told to take it in stride and grow up and to stop living in the past? Why have we done nothing to change the Islamaphobia in our government and our countrymen?  Why are all of these race, religious and ethnic prejudices and bigotry not treated as hate crimes, with the same seriousness given to anti-Semitic claims?   It is not only the uneasy truths about the State of Israel that we must open our eyes to, it is also the ugly truths about ourselves that we must judge and then change, because we are truly becoming all that we found to be wrong in the world and this is not Canadian.

Every time one culture, one race, one religion uses lies, cheats and steals to get to the top it learns nothing and each time that the oppressed seeks to oppress someone else after gaining the upper hand, it proves that they have learned nothing and the vicious cycle of every man for himself continues.  With each cycle of hate and oppression the weapons are greater and the destruction of all of us becomes one more step closer to a reality where there will be no top dog, no superior race and no new world order.  What  there will be is death, lots of death, death in numbers the likes we have only had a small glimpse of. The good as well as the bad; the rich as well as the poor; the innocent as well as the guilty from all religions and all races will be wiped off the face of the earth and the world will finally know peace once again, because the world’s harbingers of death will no longer occupy this planet, or at least not as the dominant species.  It does not have to be this way, but denying what is obvious will not save us from ourselves.

People are people the world over and the only thing that differs between good and evil are who we become and the things that we think and do.  A man can call himself a good man, but if he does evil things he is evil.  The pictures below show man doing evil throughout the world at different times in history.  The methods are different, but the reasons are always the same for doing it and the ending always spells defeat for the evil doer.

It is said to identify a problem or face a fear usually allows for some comfort and so it was with my diagnosis of prostate cancer.  It has been some what of a challenge not to scream out and strike down those who feel the need to tell me that my cancer is not so bad and that they know of lots of people that have survived and are now just like they were before the operation with a few exceptions. I smiled inside myself, as I listened as the surgeon backed up by my therapist telling me that the prostrate was very close to the group of nerves that control a man’s erection and that there was a possibility that after the operation and erection could become a thing of the past.  Now without going into much of my personal business (smile) I find the prospect of never having intercourse again a little disconcerting and though not life threatening I did not see this prostate cancer as such a little thing not worthy of any concern.

Some estimate at 30 to 40 per cent the chance of having spontaneous erections after surgery that spares one nerve bundle and indicate that this goes up to between 50 to 70 percent if both nerve bundles are spared. A workable erection is occasionally possible in about 4 months after surgery, but 6 months to a year is a more usual recovery time. Sometimes, it takes as long as two years before the spared nerves recover and erectile function is restored.

Note: It is important to realize that prostate cancer, if left untreated, can cause both erectile dysfunction and incontinence, as well as death.

I now understand also the feeling of humiliation women feel when they are asked to drop their clothing get up on a bed and spread their legs and endure the prodding of their privates by a total stranger and often not women doing the looking and prodding, but men.  My therapist was a female and she needed to feel the sphincter muscle to be able to know if I was doing the exercise properly.  This lady was the sole of professionalism, but I was embarrassed and feeling very shy none the less.  I could not even imagine having to endure this type of thing from the time I entered puberty like women do.  Even though it is a doctor and even though it is necessary it is a humbling, embarrassing experience and I shall never make light of this type of procedure again.  Well I did make light of it with some long time friends when after several rectum examinations in the same week by my team of doctors and therapist I said, “I have been prodded and poked in my bum so much that I feel like putting cones around the area hanging a sign down my back saying men at work”.

On a serious note there is so much to do before the removal of my prostate and my life style will be changed for over a year in more than just the social way, but before we get to that let me tell you about another little thing that happens to men after having this operation whether by robot or by human hand.  We have an upper sphincter and a lower one.  Now the lower one only comes into play  I am told when we try to hold our need to urinate when the bladder is just too full the upper sphincter asks for the help of the lower to keep us from soiling ourselves.  This upper sphincter that acts without need of command will not survive the operation and hence the need for the therapist who will give you exercises to help strengthen and make the lower sphincter stronger and as automatic as the upper one used to be.  For a week I will have to wear a bag and after that I will have to wear incontinence pads until I learn to control the lower sphincter enough to cut off the bladder from leaking every time I move, cough, or do anything that applies pressure to the bladder and that I was made to understand is just about everything. This stage of  my recuperation can last from 1 week to 6 months usually, but in rare cases it will be this way forever.  This is a lesser fate than death of course that is the inevitable in a lot of other types of cancers, but it is not the cake walk that others who do not have it seem to think it is.

Very humbling to say the least, but very necessary

Then there is the inability to lift anything heavy for at least 1 month and this means a bag of groceries, because of internal scarring or chance of rupture.  I am a mover and this means a loss of wages.  In my case it means no working for over a year if need be.  Now lots of people could not afford to be of work for this long and not a lot of people have this type of salary  since most companies no longer cover their employees as they used too in these hard economic times. These are real considerations that drive a person to worry about things other than death but just as hard on their nerves.  To know that while you are convalescing that your bills will be adding up and that depending on what you do you may never be able to go back to work is not a cherry thought.

I do not say these things to frighten men from having this procedure I say them to enlighten those who would seek to comfort a friend or love one by saying that any kind of cancer is a good cancer to have.  It does not make me feel better and I doubt that the phrase makes anyone with cancer feel better.  May I suggest to offer your support instead and an offer to do things that will become difficult for the person who is suffering cancer all through from the diagnosis to the recovery.  May I suggest that no one wants to repeat over and over every detail of what is happening to them and so let them decide when to talk about their illness and when they do not, you could talk about the same things you would have before finding out the person had cancer.

Everyone that I know from the time they are old enough knows some one who is either going through cancer, being diagnosed with cancer or has had a family member, friend or loved one die from cancer and one of the greatest fears that most people live with is  getting cancer.  Once being diagnosed with cancer the fear of getting it is over and the fight to survive ones cancer begins.  We with cancer choose to fight it in as many different ways as there are differences in people.  It is a sensitive as well as emotionally charged time in the cancer patients life and so one never knows what could be said that would send the cancer patient into depression, or worse, so it is advisable in my opinion to steer the cancer patient towards therapy and cancer support groups, where the person can discuss cancer with people suffering from the same cancer as they have; people who have first hand knowledge of what they are going through.

I know that all of the comments are meant well and meant to put me at ease and reassure me, but I find that they do not make me feel well.  I think in my mind that you would be not saying that if your greatest fear medically was realised and I was slinging statistics at you.  I think that when I want an opinion on what it is like to have, live, or survive cancer I will go to a cancer support group where I can hear and discuss the problems and the issues connected to cancer first hand. With my family friends and loved ones I would like to be listened to when I need a shoulder and treated normally in our every day dealings with each other.  I find that reassuring my family, friends and loved ones everyday that I am doing okay is more energy draining and causes more emotional ups and downs for me than anything else that is going on in my head.

Money Worries Spur Millions to Skip Cancer Therapy. My first therapy secession was not covered by the government and cost $90.00. The doctor told me it was vital to my recovery, but what if I did not have the money? What then? How many other things that are needed for mew to recover will be needed and can i afford them is one of our greatest worries.

Remember that being diagnosed with cancer does not lessen our worries about you, our family, friends and love ones, or lessen the worries of other things going on in our lives, it takes them to a priority level higher than ever before.  Things and preparations that we never worried about before and thought that we had all the time in the world to take care of, all of a sudden become need to be done yesterday as soon as we are diagnosed with the disease. I know that the urge for you to do, or say something comforting is almost overwhelming, but I would urge you to be as normal in conversation  and treatment of your family member and friend as humanly possible and think before you speak whether it is they you are trying to console or you.  This of course is just my opinion a guy who has recently being diagnosed with prostate cancer.

I never understood why I can not remember the good things in my childhood without remembering the bad.  There were certainly more good things than bad, too bad I have to remember the hurt before I remember the joy.  I remember the slap before the hug and I was hugged a lot.  I remember the punishment of writing out lines that demeaned me and it only happened once and to this day I do not know why that is.

When I was just a little boy  my mother would sit in an oversized over stuffed chair in the livingroom to watch television and we her 3 children used to crawl on top of her and watch television that way until it was our time to go to bed.  My mother never complained about our weight on her, or being uncomfortable and so it was that we were all together every night secure in her strength, her warmth and smell.  One family inseparable, but to remember that for a long time I had to remember this story.  One day while watching the Perry Como show I referred to the entertainer as my mother’s man and she told me not to say that, but my brother and sister and aunt laughed and so I repeated it and got a slap and ordered out of the chair.   I never got back into the chair, because I chose not to, but to this day I think of the slap first and all the other days in the chair last, or because I am talking about the slap.

Is it that the bad is so traumatic that it erases the good or clouds it so much that we can’t see anything else? I don’t know I am no doctor, I just know that somehow for me the pain, hurt and tears for me are hopelessly intertwined and so nothing out of my childhood memories ever starts with a smile.  I used to shop a lot with my mom when I was a little boy, because it made me feel so special to be with her and for every time except one our shopping ended with us going to lunch, or getting an ice cream, or some other treat, but to remember this I must remember the Easter time when things were not so good for my family.  This one day just before Easter there was no money for new clothing, a family tradition in my family, but off we went mother and I and we went shoplifting not shopping.  I was dressed in the waiting rooms and bathrooms of the department stores with my sister’s new outfit, my brother’s new outfit and my own outfit and all of that covered by the clothing I had on when we left the house.  I remember sweating and being so afraid.  I remember knowing that stealing was wrong, my mother had taught me that.  I knew if this was happening that my mother needed my help and so we did it together, but I never forgot the fear and all of those treats and lunches went out of the window.  We never went shopping together again, I always pretended to have other plans when she asked.  I knew that she would not do it again, or did I?  All I know is to think of shopping with her the 1st thing that comes to mind is that one time, that one Easter.

There were so many great Christmases in my house when I was a child and the one that leads the way is the one where my brother got punished for running away from home. He was 13 years old in high school and had done something so wrong that he thought it better not to come home for a while.  Well when he did come home he was punished with lashes and he was told that there would be no Christmas for him.  I could not have imagined the pain and the hurt as he watched all of us open our gifts from under the Christmas tree and not one was under there for him.  There were no toys, no clothing or new boots.  There was no candy and no Christmas stocking.  He never complained, there were no tears, but I felt an emptiness in the bottom of my stomach and my heart ached for  him and to this day I do not think that I have ever felt such a feeling of despair like that ever again.  All of the other Christmases before that Christmas morning got buried and that is the one I remember like it happened yesterday.

It is the same for everything in my life at that time school, community centers, church picnics you name it there is always something there that is not nice that over shadows the good times and it is often only one incidence although on some occasions it has been more than once.  I remember going on church picnics and work picnics that the whole community attended.  There were upwards of 25 busses loaded up with kids and adults let alone the 50 to 60 car loads of people.  There was food, games, prizes and everyone drank there fill and ate until they thought they would burst and most of the time a good time to me was had by all, but there was the time when a friend of my mother’s and woman I used to call auntie got too drunk and passed out behind a big rock protruding out of the ground.  Well I was passing by as she started to come to life, but she was still drunk and called to me to help her up.  Then she was pulling me behind the rock and I noticed that her pants were half off and she was offering me what no adult should have been offering a child.  I got away from her easy enough, but I never quite felt the same towards her again, or any adult female for that matter.  I never was afraid of older women, but I did start to think that they were all fair game and I ran through my mother’s friends  in short order, me using them and them using me and when there were no more aunties I moved on to older non friends of the family.  This is my lasting memory of those outings not the swimming or the games, or even the group sing alongs on the bus.

I tell you this in my ongoing battle with adults to understand that it only takes once to turn a child’s happy memories to nightmares.  I get no joy out of reliving the past in this manner, but the events of each and everyday tell me that we as adults, government and parents are still not getting it.  We as a country are still trying to minimize the effects of child abuse.  We as a people still are trying to rationalize why child abuse occurs instead of doing something about it. We choose to do more studies and hold more symposiums and do nothing to save our little ones.  Parents murder their children in their sleep and we say poor father he was depressed, his wife left him and send him off to a mental hospital who declares him sane the day after the verdict.

We have parents killing their children for honour, killing them for religious reasons and killing them because they are afraid of what the future has in store for them, but the biggest killer of innocent children is willful ignorance.  The ability of the government to ignore what it knows to be true so as not to embarrass the nations good name.  When children first complained to their parents that the priest and nuns were abusing them the parents forced their children to say nothing and suffer in silence, worrying about their own excommunications rather than their children.  When a child complains in school about bullying the school exiles the bullied child and goes into a code of silence as to not ruin the reputation of its school.  When the government hears all of this it down plays the whole package and for a short time makes laws and loud noise, that it has no way of  following through on, or backing up.   In this manner nothing gets done and the next generation of abused frightened children are created and they  like me and all the others before and after me grow into angry adults, that  will think of the sad things first before thinking of the glad and the memories of the abused child will be passed on to the next generation.  This is the life and memories of the abused child living in a world where they are not as important as the reputation of the church, the school and  the country.
