Another Children’s Birthday Party / To Go Or Not To Go That Is The Question

I got a phone call from Liam the day before his party and he could hardly talk, he was so excited about his birthday party. He never mentioned gifts, cake, or ice cream, but what he did mention was that his parents along with his uncles, aunts, grandparents and friends were all coming to the party just to see him. Continue reading

I Have A Brand New Baby Granddaughter To Spoil And Liam Becomes A Big Brother

As I sat there with the newest addition to my family nestling deeper into my chest I knew that I was indeed blessed and would not be facing old age alone. Emily brought the number of my grandchildren to 5. Continue reading

Honor Killing / Can We Say Not Here When Religious And Cultural Beliefs Are Used As A Defense For Murder?

I lay no claim to knowing why and what makes honor killing okay in the minds of some Muslims, who believe and carry through with this ideology and to be quite honest I do not really care why, I just want it to stop. This is one issue where I can not be swayed and will not tolerate any excuses. Child abuse and murder is just so wrong no matter by what authority, or by what reason the adult gives themselves as entitlement; I know this from personal experience. Continue reading

Thinking Sad Before Thinking Glad / The Memories Of An Abused Child

The biggest killer of innocent children is willful ignorance. The ability of the government to ignore what it knows to be true so as not to embarrass the nations good name. Continue reading

It Sucks To Be A Teenager And It Always Has Been So But It Does Not Have To Ruin Your Life

when I looked around the years had passed me by, the urgency of the cause was gone and I was just another uneducated black guy, with no job prospects, with a baby and girlfriend to support at 19 years old. Going back to school was not an option and so dreams of being a doctor, lawyer and even owning a store went out the window, along with me ever reaching my true potential. Continue reading

Just Trying To Escape The Pain, The Hurt, The Fear And The Hopelessness

I have secretly thought of my younger years and my behaviour back then as that of a frightened rat, backed into a corner. They make alley ways, or runways in buildings for rats so that they can escape when frightened by approaching humans, looking for files and such in rooms in sub basements. They do this because a frightened trapped rat will jump up to 5 feet, sometimes more to bite what it feels frightened of and trapped by. I felt trapped and very much like that trapped rat backed into a corner with no way out. Continue reading

When Adults Forget That Their Anger Frightens Little Children

I have always said that parents and adults hit or get rough with children when they can not find the words to get children to do as the wish. I allowed myself to forget that Liam is so much smaller than I and that I must have looked like a very scary monster approaching him in that manner. Continue reading
